چکیده

Methods: Bovine tooth roots were sectioned, mounted in epoxy, and progressively ground and polished to expose the dentin layer. Caries-like lesions were pre-formed in the dentin samples by immersion for 96 hours in demineralization solution (pH = 4.52) at 37°C. Randomly-selected samples were pulled after lesion formation and did not go through the remin/demin cycle. The remaining samples were subjected to a 7-day remin/demin cycle that consisted of a twice-daily 30-minute soak in demineralizing solution (pH=4.52, 37°C) followed by a two-minute dentifrice treatment (soak in 1:3 slurry with DI Water). Samples were soaked in artificial saliva (pH=7.00, 37°C) between the two daily demineralization/treatment periods. Treatment groups were: A) Lesion Only, B) DI Water, C) 1000ppm F as NaF (Crest®), D) 5000ppm F as NaF (ControlRx®) , E) 5% NovaMin®, and F) 5% NovaMin® + 5000ppm F as NaF. Surface microhardness (Knoop, HK) was measured on all samples using a load of 100 grams for 20 seconds.

Remineralization Effect of Topical NovaMin Versus Sodium Fluoride (1.1%) on Caries-Like Lesions in Permanent Teeth

OBJECTIVE NovaMin, a synthetic mineral composed of calcium, sodium, phosphorous and silica releases deposits of crystalline hydroxyl-carbonate apatite (HCA) structurally similar to tooth mineral composition. The aim of this investigation was to compare the potential remineralization effect of topical NovaMin and Sodium Fluoride gel on caries like lesions in permanent teeth. MATERIALS AND METH...

A preliminary study of enamel remineralization by dentifrices based on Recalden (CPP-ACP) and Novamin (calcium-sodium-phosphosilicate).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the enamel remineralization potential of two toothpastes, one of which was based on Recaldent (CPP- ACP) and the other on NovaMin (Calcium-sodium-phosphosilicate). Human permanent molar teeth were subjected to three consecutive demineralization cycles. These cycles were followed by remineralization of the experimental groups by toothpastes containing...

Remineralizing Effect of Topical NovaMin and Nano-hydroxyapatite on caries-like Lesions in Primary teeth.

INTRODUCTION NovaMin is a synthetic mineral compound composed of calcium, sodium, phosphorus, and silica. It releases crystalline hydroxyl-carbonate apatite (HCA), which structurally resembles the minerals naturally found in the teeth. Nano-hydroxyapatite (NHA) is a biocompatible compound with high affinity for tooth enamel. NHA particles morphologically resemble dental enamel apatite crystals....

pH-cycling models for in vitro evaluation of the efficacy of fluoridated dentifrices for caries control: strengths and limitations

Despite a plethora of in situ studies and clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of fluoridated dentifrices on caries control, in vitro pH cycling models are still broadly used because they mimic the dynamics of mineral loss and gain involved in caries formation. This paper critically reviews the current literature on existing pH-cycling models for the in vitro evaluation of the efficacy of fl...

Comparative Evaluation of Remineralizing Potential of Three Pediatric Dentifrices

INTRODUCTION Dentifrices are available in different formulations and more commonly a single dentifrice is used by whole family; be it an adult or child. However, concerns over high fluoride in pediatric formulations coupled with inability of the children to spit have led to recommendations to minimize fluoride ingestion during toothbrushing by using a small amount of toothpaste by children and ...
